Artist statement

EcoSystems is an extended mixtape that brings nature in as a musical collaborator by collaging field recordings, sound habitats and nature songs (content, title or lyrics). Spread over four musical habitats, each intertwined by field recordings and original ambient interludes, EcoSystemS is a unique take on nature music–weaving together a diverse range of electronic genres, for the body, mind and spirit–to align the nervous system as only nature can.

Fueled by the fire of the sun, the first habitat brings house music energy into the Ecosystem, fueling photosynthesis and building up plant tissue. Then, as a quiet storm descends, the second habitat (23:10) is bathed in the depth of the water cycle. This habitat is home to animals like birds and insects that play an important role in the movement of matter and energy through the system, feeding on plants and on one another. Breaking down dead organic matter, the third habitat (41:16) decomposes into a mystical musical moment of rebirth. While the final habitat (1:13:41) journeys through the jungle to complete the cycle, releasing carbon back to the atmosphere and facilitating nutrient cycling by converting nutrients stored in dead biomass back to a form that can be readily used by plants and microbes.
